The diocese will celebrate the centenary in 2026 to mark 100 years since it was incepted in 1926. To achieve this some centenary goals (CGs) were identified in 2020 to meet priorities as well as short and long term projects of the diocese. Goals were also set up as a guide on how the diocese can fulfill its mission and vision, become financially sustainable, prosperous, strong, culturally advanced, harmonious, and worthy of the communities we support and partners we work with by 2026. The centenary goals include:

  • CG 1: Sustainability – purpose is to build a balanced and diversified funding model for the Diocese so that at least 30% of annual general fund income is derived from within the diocese activities and no third-party makes up more than 10% of the rest.

  • CG2: Effective Clergy – to build a strong network of active clergy, working together with lay people who can model Christian values of integrity, tolerance and brotherhood by increasing the number of clergy from the current 55 priests to at least 75 to serve the 230 churches in 39 parishes in the Diocese.

  • CG3: Engaged Congregations - to reach every congregation member and other needy people at the grassroots level. Engaging congregations and communities is evidence that we fulfil our mission and the Christian message of love, hope and justice is being achieved and visible.

  • CG4: Expanded Partnerships - to further engage with partners around the world. We value our partners within the Christian community and would like to continue hosting visits from representatives of partner churches from African and non-African churches.

  • CG5: Local Partner of First Resort - to establish our credentials as a pre-eminent local partner for international NGOs so that, when a local partner is being sought for development work in East Africa, the diocese through its development arm (DMDO) is the first on the list. The diocese has been partnering with national and international NGOs and development agencies for more than 5 times.

  • CG6: Scalable and financially self-sufficient WASH programme – to make a financially sustainable WASH programme that is not reliant on donors for its growth. Establish a system that all WASH programme staff salaries to be funded out of the services offered to the community.

  • CG7: Financially Self-Sufficient Education Programme – to ensure that Rondo Seminary and St Catherine’s school for girls which is still built by the diocese on a greenfield site near Tunduru generate an operating surplus for 2023, 2024 and 2025. These schools are the education priority for the Diocese over the next 5 years.

  • CG8: Financially Sustainable Health Services – to ensure that the four dispensaries (Chidya, Mtandi, Rondo and St James) run and managed by the diocese generate a financial surplus for 2023, 2024 and 2025 and continue to offer services in their local communities for which there is a need and in a way that will mean that they will not require more support for their continued operation.

  • CG9: Profitable Enterprises – to make sure that consistent profit generated from all existing trading/commercial activities in yeas 2023, 2024 and 2025. The trading activities are a key source of income and we want to make sure that we continue to grow for the long term financial benefit of the Diocese.
